Hey , I`m upgrading to an open holed flute, and i can`t really decide what i want to get. I`m leaning more towards a Gemeinhardt 3B Open Holed flute that has Low B foot and inline G, It also has a gold lip plate. Has anybody played these flutes? If so do they produce a good tone and do they project high C a lot better. Right now i own a Gemeinhardt Basic Student Flute with offset G, It would be greatly appreciated if you could give me your opinions of this flute. THANKS! -Ian-

Cool Thanks A lot , It`s just I can`t afford a Yamaha, and another girl in my band is getting a Yamaha and it really bothered me, but Thanks for saying that it really verifies my decision.

Pearl is a really good brand, especially the Quantz Coda. I recently got one and it is ten times better than my old flute. That is what my teach recommended and she also said its the best value. Yamahas are good too but are pricey. Try Fluteworld.com. They have flutes cheaper than other places. I personally dont like gemeinhardts much, in my opinion they suck but hey, its your opinion in the end.

I have a 3B and it plays beautifully and I enjoy it. I also just bought a Selmer 220B with a gold lip plate. If you can, try to go with a silver flute instead of a silver plated.

PS. If you look sometimes you can find a good used one from another student trying to upgrade to a more advanced flute.

Thanks for all your help!! I already have planned on getting a flute from fluteworld.com, that site is great. Do you think the 3B will be good for Orchestra?I`m looking for a flute that produces a good mellow tone. Thanks for all your help and opinions

The 3B has a great mellow tone and to me was easy to play, I tend to prefer silver instead of silver plated ( I played both flutes for some blind friends and they heard the difference big time and liked the silver better ). If it is feasible, look at the 3SB, if not then the 3B is great.

That`s a bit pricey, but i`ll see what i can do money wise,i mean I`m only a 13 yr old kid trying to save up and buy this thing:-D but i think i will see how much money i can get. Because i want a gold lip plate on it , which will add to the cost! i will talk to my parents. Thanks a lot for all your help. Since im really intrested in tone quality i will most probably try and get the 3SB :-D

Flutes have gotten a bit pricey from when I first started with them. I will also give you another tip, when you buy your new flute and everything, take one of the plugs out of the holes at a time. The more you take out, continue to do some type of exercises, scales are great. When I first started playing an open holed flute, I would split the notes because I wasn`t fully covering the holes.
