Hi all, I need some help on buying a flute. I`ve played the flute for 4 years and stopped playing for 6 years. However, I am thinking about picking it up again. Can anyone provide any suggestions on which flute I should buy?
Any suggestions would help!
Thanks,
Sofia

Yamaha is considered the best but is pretty pricey. Pearl is good but you need to get one of the professional models, like the Quantz Coda. Also, Pearl has the best value. Try fluteworld.com

i thought of getting an opened holed one!

my teacher says that i should get maybe Japanese brands.

What about a Gemeinhardt? Are they good?

I had a gemeinhardt as my first flute and I have had a lot of problems with it.
Just go with something that feels right to you. Maybe a gemeinhardt will suit you, who knows.

I think Pearl flutes are overall the best. Yamaha is another good brand, and Muramatsu is pretty good too. How much are you able to spend on this flute (either of you who are looking)?

I would not recommend Gemeinhardt.

Hey,
I`ve been playing the flute for about 5 years. I recently bought an Armstrong intermediate flute. It works really good. I have a great tone on it. I talk to my flute teacher and thats what she recommended. You can buy intermediate or advanced flute, but they are suppose to be really good. At most music stores they can range from 400-1000 dollars.

If you want a flute you sound good on, I`d suggest you try many types of flutes from many different brands, and see what you like most. Many music stores that have a stock of flutes will be more than happy to let you try many and compare them. Woodwinds & Brasswinds catalog (I believe they have a website too) sends you up to three at a time for a couple weeks, so you can compare them over a period of time.

My good flute (advanced) is a Yamaha, and my student flute (eight years old) is a Gemeinhart. I have had no problems with either, except for when I dropped my Gemeinhart really hard on the metal music stand foot, but even that wasn`t very bad.

My opinions are biased, just like everyone else`s, so I`d suggest you try multiple flutes and compare how you feel and sound.

Happy Hunting!

I have a Armstrong flute and I love it! It has a great sound and lets you play high and low notes easily. Not many people have this brand, but I think It`s the best sounding flute!!!!
