Hey all you flutists out there!
I`m in the search for getting a new flute. I currently have a Gemeinhardt 3SHB (solid silver head, B-foot, open holes). What can you tell me about Pearls, Jupiters (and DiMedici flutes), Yamaha, Sonare, or any other brands? I`ve been doing a lot of online research and am curious about other people`s opinions. Also, do you know of where I can get a good deal? Thanks so much for your help!
A fellow flutist... Hannah

Hey there Hannah,

I`m also on the search for a new flute I currently own a Blessing (and i reckon its a total piece of CR@P) And im borrowing an Artley from my teacher. I`m looking for an open hole flute, and im not sure wat brand to get. Is it worth it to get an open hole flute (are they worth the search?) If anyone has any recommendations, they`d be gr8ly appreciated

Hey Mette: (I hope I got that name right!)
Well to me it was definitely worth it to upgrade to an openhole. I felt like the open holes caused my to practice more so I could figure out how to get them covered right (lol) and then I believe they also help getting the notes to come out easier. However, the part that best improved my tone was the solid-silver head. The more silver in the instrument, the more clear and beautiful the tone will be. So, when looking for a new flute, try to get as much silver in it that your budget can handle! Good luck with your search. ~ Hannah

I have an Armstrong 103B it is wonderful. I purchased it a couple of months ago. I was a bit reluctant to take the financial dive but I`m glad that I did even though is only silver plated I wouldn`t trade it for all the tea in china. I was wondering about the open-holed thing myself, but that is cleared up now, Thanks.
I know that Yamaha is also a very good brand I played trumpet until I got braces and my trumpet is a Yamaha it is now 12.5 yrs old and still sounds brand new.
Since we are on the subject of brands when I bought my Armstrong the man at the music store mentioned that he could have found a Muse or a Musette. Has anyone heard of either of those brand names?
My old and very Cr@py flute was a Pathfinder I have not been able to find anything out on the brand, I got that flute as a gift, but in any event stay away from a Pathfinder it was more of a problem than a pleasure.

Hi! I found some links but I thought maybe you should know not to get an open-holed flute on Ebay because you may want the plugs to help you learn how to play the flute. A salesman brought in a Yamaha Allegro.
