This year is my first time to march, and our show is Pirate`s of the Caribbean. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on playing it... And/or marching... Thanks!

Always look a lil to the side to make sure you are where you should be.Do not take too little steps marching backwards because they are indeed gonna seem big.Keep your head up,especially competition.Always focus, live and breathe marching when on the field,do not let other thoughts get in the way.Upper body carrige (sp),do not sway side to side when marching,it will make your tone sound sloppy.make ALL steps even. Most of all have fun!

Oh man my band played Pirates this year for our spring concert band... I must say it was AWESOME! I played piccolo for it and it was so much fun. You know when you really get into the music and when u do u just preform so much better and with so much emotion because your hearts in it? Thats what our entire band did, we loved playing that song so much. Everyone said that was the best we ever sounded. and its so cool when you play it because u can almost see Johnny Deep sailing in on that boat haha... i mean come one who wouldnt mind that?
and about marching... it can be a little challenging at first but im going into the 3rd year of marching this year and it just gets better... HAVE FUN most importantly.

Yeah i have got to say the same. we practiced it a lot and were even going to play it at our concert but the director decided not to. but we are doing it as a marching show this year, and the drill is SUPER HARD. but it`s fun. good luck this year.

well something that really really helps me when i play the flute is if you roll your feet. so that your upper body doesn`t move. . . it really works! :0

i thought everyone did roll stepped. But if you weren`t taught, it really easy way to keep in step pu your left (or possibly right) foot forward heel down roll it to the outside then onto the toe then take another step. And don`t put your heel down when going backwards thats a surefire way to mess up and fall. *whistles inisintly* Ever seen on a RealTv or Funniest home vidoes show of the band that got pplowed over by themselves in the mud? Thats why you keep your heels off the ground. And don`t practice in sandals or clogs

About the marching do not forget to ROOL YOUR FEET. That is something that is really stressed in our band. Always STAY ON YOUR TOES when you are going backwards. Believe it or not it really does make a difference. especially if you are on astro turf. Another thing is that if you are on astro turf they will easily be able to see if you are rolling your feet and staying on your toes. Last year our band was told by the marching judge that we should go and teach other bands to march because for almost every compitition we took best marching. Guiding is also really important. I am not saying that your spots are not important but if you are supposed to be in a strait line on the hash in a box that has the lines four steps a part but the line in front of you is up to far for you to be on the hash and four steps behind them you must be the four steps behind them for spacing reasons. That is what one of the judges saw and mentioned last week when we were to far back in relation to the line in front of us. We also have a compitition today so I am trying to keep all those things in mind. Hope this helped.
