I just have to ask if anyone here knows of Eric Whitacre? I absolutly LOVE his stuff. Espically his work for Wind Ensemble called October. I first heard this song when i was seeing a college band preform at one of our local colleges and was capitavated from teh very beginning with the amazing Oboe solo that starts it off. It just has SO much emotion and i just love it. visit his website and listen to a clip of it

http://www.EricWhitacre.com

and go to the Mp3 on the side and click October ( or anything else) and tell me what you think.

I have the whole song if anyone wants it.

You said you had teh sheet music for it? Is there any possible way you can get that to me? I would really appreciate it. I have been wanting to get teh sheet music for soooo long but you have to buy the whole score. Ive been trying to convience my band teacher to get us to play it.... well see.

Im glad to see you all like him so much!

And i dont think he wrote it in his 20s. I think he wrote it only a few years ago.. I could be wrong.

I played October by Eric Whitacre in the spring 2004 symphonic band at Pineville High School in Pineville, Louisiana. I loved the song so much. The judges at state festival were just like, oh my. It is just so pretty. This year we have decided to play Sleep and we are going to have the choir singing with us in the background at our spring gala. Of course we offset October at festival last year with Providence UNfinished by Holsinger. WE have this trend of doing a Whitacre and a Holsinger back to back. This year our Holsinger is CityScapes. This song is awesome. Last year for our march we played Circus Bee by Henry Filmore, again another great song. Very challenging with all of the 32 note runs into the upper octaves on trumpets. But you can never lose the judges if you do a Whitacre piece.

we did october in our high school band last year for one of our festival pieces.. it`s a beatiful song!! i have the flute part but unfortunatly i have no way to get it on to this computer at the time..
it`s a fairly easy song to play rythmically but playing with emotion and putting it together with the band is the challenge. it`s amazing and i think it really does make you become a better musician.
