I LOVE OCTOBER!!! In my band in high school we are playing it now and I hate it when we have to put it away. It`s a really cool piece.

I Agree with all of you! It is, by far, one of the most captivating song ever. I fell in love with it the moment the oboe started playing.( I`m an oboest, and we have one of the BEST oboest in Nevada, not me Even the story behind it is memorizing. I can`t wait till I`m able to conduct it!!

ha, i love whitacre`s style. Our high school symphonic band played october at festival last year! Some of us went up to IN for grand nationals this year and Avon`s show was called "Now and Zen" and was based on Equus. it was amazing...it also had bits of october and sleep in it.

This is a nice peice. My community band is playing it this spring. Unfortunately we have no oboe player but someone's playing the solo on soprano sax and still sounds pretty.

Hey Everyone! I used to belong to this forum a few months ago, but left because the identity stealing was so bad, it was hard to get anything done! Now, I am a member again! I used to be under the screen name Jessie before the changes were made, and I know Kara would remember me! Hi everyone again!
October by Eric Whitacre is one of my favorite songs. I performed it with the "Red Bull" Infantry Band a few months ago and it was so beautiful it made me and the person sitting next to me cry!
I have not heard anything else by Eric Whitacre, though, or, at least I am not aware of it if I have... Does anyone have any titles or recomendations?

I forgot to ask earlier: Has anyone ever conducted this song? I have tried, but I keep forgetting how often the time signatures change, and am wondering if there is anyone who has conducted it! (Sorry... I am new to this set up and I don't like to go off topic, but how does one log out?)

It appears that ERic Whitacre is a fairly prolific composer. His website lists quite a few different compositions.

We played it plast fall and it never failed to give me goosebumps (I played oboe).

Aw, well, he isn't ugly, I can say that much!
Ghost Train Triptych: I have that one on a CD somewhere, I have to dig it out? Has anyone ever heard that? It is pretty far apart from October, I have to say. It's brilliantly done, though! Wow, here I was with Eric Whitacre's music on my iPod and didn't even know it... now I feel kinda sad!

right now the band I'm in is playing 'Lux Arumque' and last year, or the year before LSU played 'Godzilla Eats Las Vegas'. BTW To whoever said that Whitacre couldn't have been in his 20's when he wrote 'October' because it was only in 2000- keep in mind, he is only around 27-32 now. 'Ghost Train' was his first piece for wind ensemble and he wrote it while he was an undergrad at UNLV.
