Ok I know this is a stupid question, especially coming from a person whose being playing for five years, but I recently bought a instructional book for Flute and the fingering chart in the back shows the fingering for D(one sill in the staff, but at the top.) as having fingers 2 and 3 down on the left hand and 1 2 and 3 down on the right.
Now I have another fingering chart that I got off the internet and the fingering for that same D is excatly the same as the fingering for one an octave lower. In other words fingers 1 2 and 3 down on left and 1 2 and 3 down on right.
Which one is right? I`ve always played the note like the one I got from the internet, I`m I playing it wrong?

The correct fingering, used by ANY semi-serious flute player, is thumb+ 23-123.
I don`t think you would find a 123-123 even mentioned in ANY flute tutor book, except for D-E trills, where tone must be compromised for the sake of speed.
A 123-123 fingering would add a hint of the lower octave to the tone, which is unacceptible. YOur ears may have got so used to it that you no longer notice.

Practise!!!!
Every semi-accomplished flute player has been through this.
While you are practising, think about what each finger is doing, and also watch them in the mirror. For the more problematic fingers, consciously try moving them slightly before or after the others.
NEVER repeat playing anything poorly. This constitutes practising how NOT to play it, and for every practise experience you have playing something poorly, you will need 10 practise sessions to correct it again - to UNDO the brain condition damage you have done.
EVERY time you play an instrument you are practising. If you are not practising getting it RIGHT then you are practising getting it WRONG!
