I played piccolo all through high school, including during concert season. Now mind you, this was 20 years ago, but I had an Armstrong nickel plate picc. It was terrific. I probably shouldn`t have been playing the same picc during concert season, but it worked for me.
I would not spend a ton of money on a marching piccolo. It is going to be exposed to the elements and everything else that goes with marching band. Save your money for a really great piccolo if you decide to stick with it and have something nice for concert season.
Good luck!
Diane

Get resonably cheap picc for MB then stick with flute for concert season. I`ve had a picc for 2 months and I`m still getting used to it so get ready to break it in a lot. But pics are louder and hold more power. but a picc is as good as the person playing it so get used to using a lot more air!

I am going to play piccolo in marching band next year but I have a Geminhardt piccolo right now but I`m in 8th grade at a charter school so we dont have marching band. I play mine in our school band & at our local youth orchestra. I would go with a Geminhardt!

If you go with a Gemeinhardt piccolo then I would highly recommend that you stick to an all plasic model. Plastic is versitile for both marching and concert.

I have marched with a piccolo for a few years and I would highly recommned a plasic body because a silver body dents way too easily. I have no preferred brand-just find one that has good sound when you are marching and that compliments the rest of the band.

it does take a good bit of work, but i`d prefer to play my picc over my flute anyday!! i have a yamaha and i love it! i would deffinatly suggest it to anyone. i`m the only the plays a yamaha in our band because they are a little bit more expensive. a lot of my friends have geminhardts and enjoy them. so i think either brand would be great
