hey, just wondering what styles you guys prefer to play. alot of people find flute a `classical` thing only, personally i like classical, but prefer rock and jazz styles. what do you guys play, and what method books/ ways of learning it do you use? keep flutin`

Ya, classical flute is what I played all though school. I learned a lot of great technique from playing classical flute in an orchestra setting.

But I’m with you Andrew, I prefer playin’ different styles. I prefer jazz, R&B, soul, funk, and old school 60s and 70s music. Now that’s some music that will hit my soul mmm…

Has far as “what method books/ ways of learning” do I use: I find a CD with a lot of flute parts and just start schoolin’ myself. I use (just naming a few) Herbie Mann, Yusef Lateef, David “Fathead” Newman, Love Unlimited, EWF, or even Erykah Badu.

I’m not really into rock, but maybe some Jethro Tull would inspire you.

I love playing Celtic and Irish music, it`s so beautiful...

I think rock`d be cool on a flute. I`m waiting for a rock band to have a flute in it...it`d be sooooooo cool!

I play classical but I really like rock. There`s this one guy in a band that I like who`s amazing! He`s really good at the flute and his music is awesom.

I suck at playing a jazzy like style. I can`t get improvisation. I`m a classical flutist. Jazz solos I don`t get, but classical I do get. It`s just that I`m not good at pulling things out of my head. I started out learning to read music and play what`s in front of me and I`ll die woth that ability.lol.

Classical.I would love to learn other stuff,but always classical!
