Hi,

I am a professional saxophonist in Australia, however just recently picked up a gemeinhardt KG special flute for US$725 on eBay.

How much would it be if I were to buy it brand new and frankly, is this flute model good enough for my jazz works? Thanx,

Alvin

Available only to select dealers, the KG Special is a 3SB with features--such as white gold springs for lighter action, and a gold plated inner headjoint for darker tone, and french-style pad cups--found on more advanced flutes

to the original poster...if what is true about said gold springs, it is totally un-necesary. Gemeinhardts aren`t the best kinds of flute but if you`re not planning on persuing it as say a solo classical thing or an orcehstral thing etc and merely for fun, then i`m sure you could find a better flute for about the same price. if you`re doing jazz, then i might not be of much help. sorry dude

Each to his own...different people work better on different brands and styles. Maybe this is a good flute for you...

Alvin, take an experienced flute player with you to a shop and listen to it played, compared with a student Yamaha. I think the Yamaha might surprise you. That would provide for you some measure of the Gemeinhardt`s value.

Gemeinhardt are well known for simply not having made the advances in DESIGN that most other manufacturers have worked on. No number of fancy features compensates for sub-standard design, especially those that are arguably entirely cosmetic, or tools of marketing hype (like the springs!)

Well from my experience a GOOD brand new Gemeinhardt KG Special Flute would be $1000 up depending on the Dealer i recieved mine for $1250.45.<< I think the dealer had a crush on me >> It was a good deal because clearly the flute had superior tone quality, and was easily manuverable. But To tell you the truth a Yamaha is one of the Best around My Yamaha was my first flute and gives a good fight when it comes to my Gemeinhardt.
