Don`t worry Pricilla I`m not going to flame you. In fact I agree that an auxillary forum is a good idea.
Chances are wherever she goes to college there will not be majorettes. I was just thinking the whole well rounded and stand out in the crowd kind of thing would be of assistance especially since many schools no longer have majorettes. I know this from my own experience applying to colleges and because my cousin is an admissions counselor at Brown University.
So I`m just saying although being a majorette will not continue very long into her future it will open some doors that may not otherwise so easily been opened.
I`m not saying that grades aren`t important too. Grades are important very very very important. It is just that a wide range of interests and activities will assist in highlighting ones grades during the addmissions process when a tired committee is looking at all around (insert specific activity) enthusiast number 200 something unusual like being a majorette will spark some more interst in that student`s application.

Pricilla although I do agree with needing an auxillary forum. I do NOT agree that auxillary people are jerks. I will have you know that I was in the color guard until my carpal tunnel syndrome put a stop to it.
Auxillary questions are not stupid they are as legitiamte as any flute question. The only thing is the flute forum is NOT the place for auxillary questions. But without an auxillary forum where else are they going to be asked?

Well it all depends if you have terrific hand-eye cordination then go majorette if not then stick to flute. See if your school has picc for u guys to borrow if you`re worried about marching with a long flute. i started marching in flute then swiched to pic right after the first few practices and it made a world of difference. If in doubt talk to the majorettes and flute players who are in band see what hey sugest and mind the fact that many will just want more to boost their numbers.

I don`t think it`s all that hard to march with a flute. you have to get used to it and build muscles in your arms but it`s not that hard. I played piccolo this year and I`m a freshman but I have marched with a flute.

First of all, i take offense to some people saying that all a majorette does is twirl a baton in a skimpy outfit and that auxilery sucks. I understand that it is your own opinion, but there is more to being a majorette. I can`t belive that everyone is getting so upset. Flutists are suppost to bond, are we not? Being a majorette tunes your leadership skills and makes you take responsibility. You need to have strong self disipline to withstand the heat and the endless signals, and you need to prove to your band that you are worthy of such an honor to be a majorette. Just because you play flute does not mean that you need to give up playing. I am Lead Flute during the school year and am Lead Piccolo during the summer, all the while training to be the best majorette I can be. When I read some of the things people have to say about "auxilery jerks" and that being a majorette is worthless, my stomach churned and my hands shook. I understand opinians, but, please, if you have nothing nice to say about majorettes or "auxilery jerks", just dont say it. From one flutist to another, I respect all leaders in music, and a majorette is a great title to have.

Thats alright...I got really dramatic. I dont know why some flute players take up auxilery, but, I suppose they must have an interest in it if they do. I know how hard it is to be first, too. Our directors keep quitting at our school, so every year it is different on how our band program works, so our marching band comes together to work things out for the better; there is a fellowship there, led by our majorette.
And besides, what is a discussion without some controversy?

Interesting thread. Flame me too, see if I care. I`m a guy and shouldn`t even be in this topic. But I played clarinet in the marching band, and it wasn`t even 4 school. It was the AIR FORCE. I`ll tell ya, the rest of the program wasn`t for wussies. Now sometimes I had to give up the instrument to carry the colours ... the flag. It`s not baton twirling, but I preferred the instrument, just because I was used to it. I`d stick with the music, although I like majorettes ... Strat(osphere) man Dwight

I can believe that marching in the air force is not for the faint hearted, but, did we not all agree that we wouldent `flame` one another? And, do you like majorettes because of their power in the band or just because? Marching in general is not for the faint hearted, thinking about it...
