I don`t know about your school, but at my school majorette is a hard task to do. i was in color guard my freshman and sophomore years, but now i march majorette. Our majorette program doesn`t sound like yours but i`ll give you a go at ours. We march tiresome hours doing tosses, our routines, and marching all at the same time. We do tosses such as two turns, 3 turns, bows, illusions, and many more. One of the girls on the line used to play flute, but thinks majorette is much harder. Many girls underestimate twirling- but I say you can`t knock it til you`ve tried it- and realized how hard it is...

Dear lord don`t do it. Go find a band where you can sit down and not play in the rain. I have no idea why Americans are so keen to wander around fields waving things.

I`m both..I alternate one parade I`ll play flute the next I`ll dance. We call it cynamics instead of majorette but it`s really similar.
But majorette is just as hard if not harder than marching with flute. I think they are the same level of difficulty actually. Just ask yourself: Would I rather march and dance at the same time, remember all those movements, smiling, looking really happy to be there, kicking my foot up as high as I possibly can , not falling over, staying on time? Or would I rather have my arms cramp up, my mouth keep embouchure for like ever, forget the melody, drop the flute, run out of breath, and stay in my band uniform (mines all long sleeves and heavy) the whole parade?
Just ask yourself questions...list pros and cons. You`ll figure out which one you`d prefer to march with.

Flute is the greatest!marching with it isnt too bad imagine if you played tuba!J/K!But I have marched for two years on flute and i love it. What you really need to do is think about what you want. What would you like to do more. Personally I could never march under anything but the proud headstrom flute that I have become but ultamentlly the desision is up to you and your intrest.

Personlly, I would stick with the flute...but I`m biased because I marched flute in high school. I think both could potentially be great experiences. Marching flute can be very challenging, but rewarding once you get good at it. Being majorette could be an opportunity to aquire and demonstrate leadership skills (if that`s how it works in your music program...in mine, the majorette was pretty much just eye candy for the guys). If you choose to be the majorette, make sure to practice...taking a season off from playing your flute could be a major setback for you come concert band season.

"I have no idea why Americans are so keen to wander around fields waving things."

Could we please stop bashing America? Do you hear me going around and bashing other countries just because I don`t live there and they have other ways of doing things?

How juvenile! Now, how can you judge me when you act like that?

Well, what other country is famed for its love of wandering around in the rain playing music to accompany what can only be regarded by right-thinking people as the sissy-boy cousin of rugby?

It`s not my fault that happens to be America. If I was slagging off the Dutch for doing something equally stupid you wouldn`t care.

Mrs. C:
It`s from the Brits that we got those strange customs having earned our freedom in a militaristic manner we celebrate it with marches and on our independence day with simulated cannon fire.

Wasn`t there a tune lyrics something like: "Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon day sun".

We also feel compelled to play our Star Spangled Banner at these events -tune came from the Brits again. as well as the occasional Yankee-Doodle.

That being said, although I`m not all that supportive of the marching band concept these days because it does not promote quality flute playing, the halftme show does help to keep the band directors employed and the instrumental music programs in the U.S. school systems. Perhaps something similar for Cricket? Maybe it`d fit better with your football game.

Without the Nebraska State Marching Band, Tommy Lee would never have been inspired to ask the ultimate philosophical question, "Where are the Cheerleaders?"

Now I find it slightly unfair that you pin the blame on us for something you have had several hundred years to correct, especially since it is the English who are really the culprits.

Having said that, your point about marching tunes is fair and true; we "Brits" do also have the rather ridiculous tradition that is the Protestant marching season.

And I note you can`t even begin to defend yourself on the point of rubbish sports. (Incidentally, it`s not called soccer)

Well!! Who, called it soccer? Our game is so badly named. We rarely apply the foot to the ball in that sport & It`s been only recently that we are starting to see the light that basketball uses no baskets. It`s only beginning to be called ....hoop.

I never watch sport, except rugby- which is a real man`s sport, not like poncy American "football" where you don`t even use your feet and have to be wrapped up like a spaceman to play!

But in the interests of fairness, I should point out that my island produced the two worst sports of ALL TIME: gold and cricket.

You must not know a whole lot about football then, because you do have to use your feet. What do you think they call a field goal?

Mrs. C, I hope to God that you do stay out of the US, because you mock it so much yet you hardly know what you are talking about in the first place.
