Sorry, I guess I tend to take things more seriously when someone is always bashing the US for everything. That is my country and I am very pround to say that I am an American.
There is nothing wrong with that.

Now, let`s stick to the flute, shall we?

I`m NOT always "bashing" the USA! I don`t take the p*ss out of the US any more than any other country in the world! You`re just very paranoid about anyone having anything to say that`s not "Your country is fantastic, please let me move there."

I like America. I`d like to go there one day, but that doesn`t mean I can`t make fun out of your national quirks as much as I make fun of my own.

Hey...I enjoy twirling things in skimpy little outfits as much as the next guy...but hey. If you wanna wear those outfits be a cheerleader or pom girl (i`m a dancer along with first picc and flute) They get more scholarships. MM Hmmm....true that. But band gets you the BEST scholarships...its a proven fact that musician`s get the most at almost every college....esp UofA...and Texas Tech...places like that. But if its your DREAM to be a majorette....and you think it will be your passion. By all means, smutty go for it.

There MUST be a way to combine the skimpy outfits and musical scolarships....

Perhaps (s)he`s suggesting that you ignore America`s bad points through unthinking "pride" in it. I don`t know if you do though, just sounds to me like you are too sensitive; the two aren`t really the same.

I don`t really see the point of pride in your country. I love where I live (except the rain, the government, people blowing bits of it up, the bigotry, the class system, our total lack of concern for the environment, the church etc) but being proud of something concrete your country has achieved (such as an invention or averting conflict or something) and being blindly proud of being "British" (or "American" or "Polish" for that matter) seems a little bit odd to me. But then I don`t come from a country with such patriotic zeal.

If you are still confused about the whole majorette thing. I was both in the band and I twirled for my band. I was first chair trumpet and i liked it. But if you want to work your ass off, then be a majorette. We dont just wear little skimpy outfits, or hold a pretty little stick. Obviously you have never seen real majorettes. We twirl fire batons, fire knives (o in case you are wondering the flame is real and they are really like an inch away from our hair.)also we twirl one two, and three batons . At my school we practice three times as much as the band and i love it. I am now in college and have plans to open a baton academy and if you are serious go for it!!! but just remember that you practice from the time you get out of school til about nine o`clock to be good or even later.

Oh my, this was the first subject I ever responded to and I remember it made me so mad that my hands shook. Being a majorette is such an honor if you are in the right school. Unfortunetly, that power was used against me last year by my former director and this is yet another year I am in the running for majorette...
Mrs. C: you are being rather rude...We all have different thoughts, that is why we are here, but to bash another country, during this day and age, is a rather poor thing to do...I recall several things that you have said in the past....
And for anyone who didn`t read the DC PRO thread, I`m back for now....Computer is fixed and I am a bit more free with my time. (Summer was awful!!!) I`m glad to be back. As I told Kara, I feel like a fool to be leaving and then coming back...but life throws you curves sometimes and those are the times where the forum has to take a backseat!

Thanks Kara! Same with me!!! On the topic of majorettes, I actually just lost the vote for the position. It was only by two, but the girl who won had a lot of friends that were in band, too. The sad thing is, she doesnt really know what she is doing, so I will have to help out or watch her suffer. The band members who didn`t vote for her wanted a re-do, but the director said it was final. This is the fifth director my school has had! The girl said that she might only accept the position for a while because she has other activities.
Shouldent a person who has been elected a leader accept her position as final and take it seriously. (I am not writing this bitterly, but posing a question)
What is the proper way to deny a position such as majorette?

Hey Jessie! Sorry to hear that.
I remember when I was in school it was always a big popularity contest and didn`t have much to do with talent. I am sure things are still the same....

Of course, I never had a problem because I was so popular. People were afraid of me because I would drop kick them if they started any trouble. ...No... Just kidding!!!

Well, we had a revote today and the same girl won, her friends outnumbering everyone else. She can`t conduct, can`t count, doesn`t know whistle commands and doesn`t even try. Yet she claims that she `has worked so hard for that position`! I really hurt right now! I`m going to do the good thing and stay with the band, though. They need me on piccolo, I suppose...

Bummer! Well that bites! Just give it time, the band will realize what a mistake that did by voting for her when she can`t perform up to standards.

Piccolo highlights the band. It is like the icing on the cake. Without it, it just wouldn`t sound the same.
Every band needs a piccolo!

Your chances of getting into a good symphony will double if you also play picc well. Just think about that...

I think youd be better off just marcing flute it rly not that hard to march and play music but from expearencer with both i know its hard to concentrate on your marching when your twrling and at mi school our director makes us march i dont like to but its all for show if your in first chair i wouldnt mess that up that rly good I think the band would need you more.
