well i am a flute player and have marched flute for 2 yers now and next year i am too trying out for majorette. marching the flute is not that bad. although your arms get really tired doing laterals and horn angles have to be perfect. but one good thing is that if it rains, then all woodwinds dont have to play cause the rain could really screw up your pads. but i wanted to try something new and different so i decided to become a majorette and it really is a lot of fun and exciting. you have to srtive for a higher level of perfection because when you go to competitions, you get judged just on you alone and your performance. me, i would personally rather be a majorette than flute, but i still love flute!

ummm! I am a majorette at my school and I am goign to answer your question woith ou answering it! If that makes any sense to you! okay first off someone ask what a majorette was and they said a PATON TWIRLER WITH A SKIMPY OUTFIT! IT IS BATON... not paton and every uniform is different! Um I play clarinet and at my high school u must march one year with an instrument b/c u can twirl baton or flag or drum major. in marching with you flute ur just going to have to march correctly... lay loudy and keep giod posture. with majorette you would have to twirl pretty and clean march and keep a good posture watch the crowd not the baton and do extremly hard trick with marching and twirl 2 or 3 batons! we do 1 2 and 3! anyways it is much hard to be a majorette! and if you looking for a easy thing to do go with flute if your looking for a scholarship go with flute. in college majorettes much be so good and they dont accept as many as they would instrument and there are weight limite you cant be below or above and it is very veyr hard and u must be deciate... my yahoo sn is tacy_not_tracy and my aol is twirlinbarbie200 im me!

My answer, having done marching band under a rather politically-minded band director 20 years ago, is "What does your band director think you should do?"

Frankly, I think that is the best way to approach it--you need to ask. If they need majorettes, then they may cut you a break, chairwise, in concert band, or at least be neutral. If they'd rather you play the flute/picc, then you run the risk of ticking them off.
