I`m new also, and I`m using a book called How to Play The Flute by Howard Harrison. Very easy to follow step by step method. It`s paperback and it is $10.95. Your library may have a copy.

I started Flute with Essentials. The memories, started with a slight raspy sound then my umbasure strengthened and i got a good tone. My teacher says it`s better than most of the flutes in my class, but i could still work on a it a bit.
