Hello fellow flute players:
I`ve been working on a solo (Hamburg Sonata by CPE Bach) which has several awkward 32nd note runs. I`m having a lot of trouble going from middle octave D to middle octave F#. Does anyone know any alternate fingerings for this or any tricks? Thanks! -- Hannah

PRACTISE!!!!

There are far more difficult note changes than this that you will have to master, so get used to it. If you start resorting to alternate fingerings, your incompetence with ordinary fingering will definitely come and bite you later.

Aren`t you lucky that the standard fingering is not your MIDDLE finger for F#. Try that! TRy being an oboe player!

The lazy alternative is to leave your little finger off for the F#, but the next piece you play may have D-F#-E, and you will not be able to avoid facing the non-lazy fingering.

I disagree with Meme. I don`t know a particular trick fingering for thjis, but as it is in 32nd notes, possibly leaving the 1st finger on for the F# may be acceptable? I think that so long as you are ABLE to do normal fingerings, that as Meme said, can be an awful lot harder than this quite basic one, ity is quite acceptable to do trick fingerings in tricky runs like the one you are describing.

Leaving your first finger on will give you a fattened F, not an F#!!!

Not very good advice!
