I totally disagree, simply because I used to borrow a sterling silver Haynes piccolo from my teacher. It had a very, very sweet sound.

I think that if you really research it you will find that what makes different tones in different piccolos is the precise (taper)shaping of the bore, the diameter and length of tone holes, the precise dimensions of the embouchure hole, any shaping of the lip plate or timber equivalent on the `downstream` side, the undercutting of the tone holes, the polish or otherwise of the bore, but NOT the material.

Certain parameters are easier to manipulate in timber, but not impossible with metal.

I hate Haynes anything! They are so over rated. There is a huge difference between a silver picc and a wood one. Any pro piccolo player will tell you that. If anyone tells you differently (referring to Meme) then I would tell them (him) to get their hearing checked.
A silver Haynes sounding sweet.... LOL!!!

So true what me said. I don`t know how anyone could say a silver piccolo sounded sweet. Maybe the guy is deaf after playing on a silver one for too long? Lol!!
