ive recently got a yamaha flute and the higher notes soud really sharp especially c above middle c and b below that could anyone help?

try putting ur lip further forward when u sound the note and directing the air higher or lower (depending on it being sharp or flat)

anon, did you have this problem on your flute before this one?
I have found that Yamaha flutes do run sharp. For many years I played on a Yamaha, but I always had trouble with the scale. I think that Yamaha`s are the best made student/intermediate flute, but I just wish that they would change the scale on them.

i had a selmer before my yamaha and it was a really good flute with a really nice tone and almost perfectly in tune but i`d had it for about 6 years but it was a begginers flute and i needed somthing more advanced

Bingo! There is your problem. You aren`t used to the scale on the flute. If you didn`t have any tuning problems with the flute before this one, it only goes to show you that it is not you. While I love Yamaha flutes, I don`t like the scale that they use on them. I have many students with the same problem that play on them and I have had to make modifications to try to help it out some.
