I have a question. This comming marching band season we will only have two flutes. That is if neither of them become drum major. The problem is that we need more flutes for the show that we are doing. I play clarinet and it is my main instrument but I also play flute. There is a clarinet solo and a flute one but I know I am not good enough on flute for the flute one and would really like to get the clarinet one because I can play it so well. If your band director asked you to switch would you? Another thing is the show is a grade five and really cool. It is also going to be my senior year. What would you do?

I had this problem my first year of marching band and I ended up switching from clarinet to saxophone just because we needed more tenor saxes. I felt more proud of myself for not being selfish that year then anything else.

u should switch because if ur band director asks u, u should, u should do this because he/she will be proud for helping out and helping the whole band.
good luck

switch only if YOU feel comfortable to switch. if you feel more comfortable as a clari, march calri. but if you want to play flute to help out the band, do so. it`s up to you, so think long and hard ver the matter

Yeah...I would say it depends how many clarinets you have..if theres a lot..then play flute because thats what they really need...and you don`t HAVE to play the flute solo...have someone else play it.
