Hey all, I`m new to these forums so bear with me

Recently i found my clarinet lurking in the cupboard, after fond memories of the utter git who used to be my clarinet teacher and made me give up the thing 4 years ago i thought i would take it back up and teach myself to play (i started learning about 10 years ago).

Anyway i had a problem where if i went to play a low G the note i would get was a high D. It was exactly as though i was pressing the register key! Yet said key was down and i even wedged a guitar plectrum in there to force it down.

I recieved my new reeds today (given the old one was a bit tatty and 4 years old) and the problem has more or less stopped, though it does happen occasionally.

I tried checking for leaks and found none, could my mouthpiece be at fault or is it purely my technique? Any help would be great!

Thanks - Foster

Try oiling the key if you haven`t already done so. After four years of disuse everything will be quite stiff.
