Just a question...what does everyone think of the bass clarinet...as a solo instrument, as an orchestral instrument, and the players who play it?

As a current bass clarinetist, I think that anyone who is willing to put in time and effort to be a better player is a great person in my book!
As a solo instrument, I`m not so sure, just bcause I`ve never used it as a solo instrument before.
I did some light reading up a while back and the bass clarinet`s original uses tended to be in jazz groups and symphonic orchestras, and I think it makes for a great bass line in woodwind choirs. Unfortunately, I cannot play the bass in either our community symphonic orchestra or aour jazz band , but I would galdly fo so if I could.

I want to play Bass Clarinet, but my director won`t let me because there`s like two clarinetists in my grade. But I think Bass Clarinet is flippin sweet!

Also, this guy in my school plays Bass Clarinet and he did a solo in one of the songs our band played and it was really cool.

I played the bass clarinet in high school and played a solo at contest. There isn`t that much music out there for the bass, but it is a very cool instrument. I swiched over from soprano clarinet because i love the sound. When it gets up into the higher ranges, it doesn`t get suweeky like the soprano clarinet, it sounds nicer. Once you can get the high notes to sound good, or at least get them out. It has an awesome low sound but you can still articulate.

Hi I play the bass clarinet in highschool...currently that is....it smells like sh*t n its a pain in the A$$ to carry around...it sounds better than clarinet tho..but i personally like the SAXAMAPHONE!!
