So I`m trying to learn the clarinet in a sense. My sister played it in middle school and I think one year in high school. I`ve gotten her to dig her clarinet out of her closet and I`m giving it a go.

She has shown me how to clean it and such and shown me how to get a sound out of it, but besides that I`ve been on my own.

This is my fourth year playing the trombone, if you count the first three were I didn`t really try.

I haven`t really even been playing the clarinet a week. I think... three days and yesterday I had less time than normal.

My sister has some books, but I can`t play much of what`s in them. I`m trying to play an accompiniment to the C scale that ranges from the A in the second space in the staff down to the first E below the staff.

I think b flat in the middle of the staff is the highest I can play. As a trombone player working on range ins`t a new thing, but it`s frustrating.

I also can only play about half an hour, but then I start buzzing. At this point I cannot stop myself from buzzing. When there is buzzing there is no clarinet sound.

Can anyone give me some advice on what to practice and how to improve my range? Even if I`m going at this in a lame way I plan to keep trying so I can at least have some experience with another instrument. Thank you!

i play the Bb and Eb clarinets.

you just need to keep practising.

if you practise every day for a while you will get the hang of it. ;-)

try finding a teacher, that will help you.

the 80 graded studies for clarinet book1 is a good book for beginner to intermediate. it improves your technique.

otherwise start with the easy scales such as C, F, and G majors.

concentrate on your sound...
