2 years ago my girlfriend sustained a traumatic injury to the upper jaw and nose are of her face. She had reconstructive surgery and now is held together (very well I might add) by 56 very small titanium plates and 100s of screws. Before her injusry she was a clarinet player and really would like to be able to do this again. She has tried a few tiems in the past two years to set the mpc in her mouth, and it just doesnt work.

Is there a professor out there with experience in rehabilitateing such a trauma and rebuilding an embouchure?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I`m afraid that I`m no teacher or anything, but I can try to give some advice, even if your girlfriend has tried it already... anyway, make sure that she has got a good reed and that the clarinet works because it might not be her... then have her try again with the embrouchoure (sp) that she can remember... if that doesn`t work, have her tighten and loosen it up and see if that does anything... if she gets no sound at all, then increase the air support... when beginning clarinet, that`s where most people have the trouble... she needs lots of air... just have her move her mouth in different ways until she at least gets a squeak... don`t worry, a squeak is a good thing, it means she`s getting at least close enough to being wrong... then, slowly but surely, playing around with it and changing how tight her lips are around the mouthpiece, she should be able to regain her style... give her my best and I wish you and her the best of luck this new year!!!
