Hello fellow clarinet players!! I am going into college in the fall of 2006 to major in music. I currently own a Buffet R13 Bb Clarinet that I use for concert band and then an old Selmer for Marching Band and Parade. Frankly, the old Selmer is pretty bad. I'm thinking about doing marching band in college, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on buying a good plastic clarinet (if possible with prices that are affordable). If anyone has any input on this subject, that would be great! Thanks!!

I completely understand how you feel about the plastic clarinets, I myself own a plastic clarinet i will use for next marching season, however it's made from some really old company that isn't in buisiness anymore. It really does get frustrating going from high quality r-13 to plastic peice of garbage however it's what gets me by. I would rather save up for a really professional clarinet or even books for college. I think making due is just the easiest way. most people's plastic horn isn't that great in college either. so just show them up with your wooden one in concert season. they all understand. your selmer cant be that bad can it?

I dont have the model number, but Vito makes a pretty nice plastic clarinet, its the only one I have now, Next year is marching band so i get my Buffet Wood one. But I love my Vito it was a beginners clarinet, and when we bought it from woodwind and brasswind it was cheaper than renting for a year so I'd look into Vito's its keys are very comfortable, sounds great too.
