Hi all. I have an old Yamaha student model clarinet (plastic). A few years back I loaned my mouthpiece to someone for a day, she promptly left town and I never heard from her again. I just want something to get me started playing again, nothing too expensive but something that won't hold back my sound too much. Any suggestions?

pop to ya music store..tell them..take your clarinet and try some....

I would suggest getting a Vandoren B45. They sell new from an average music store for about $120, but you can order from the Woodwind and Brasswind company and get one for about $60.
Also, it is sometimes a good idea to get the mouthpiece that came with the instrument because they are often acoustically tuned to the clarinet. Contact the maker of your clarinet and see if you can order one. If not, get a B45.

Vandoren mouthpieces are fine, but everyone seems to forget that there are other great mouthpieces out there. I play a Ignatius Gennusa-Zinner mouthpiece, and it far outpaces any Vandoren that I've played in tonal quality.
