Well guys heres my delima... I want to start learning how to play clarinet. I already play guitar, bass, trumpet, and trombone. Im very interested in learning a woodwind. So i found an old wooden Bundy clarinet for $50 it was missing the mouthpeice. I would say its at least 30 yrs old? Its messing the pads i think and probably needs other things done to it, but come on its only $50. So should i get brand new clarinet or fix up an old one? thanks!

I dont know if a Bundy clarinet is good, but old doesnt mean bad. $50 is cheap, and check how much it cost to repair. If its a plastic, you can find one for 300, so if the price is higher than that... But if its wood, it depends on how good it is (from as low as 600 to ?)

I'd get it! Bundy clarinets play pretty well and the new ones run kinda high. Besides your a beginner, you dont want a $2000.00 clarinet to start with. Take it to any type of instrument repair places. Most places charge anywhere from $100-$250 for the whole repair (they replace pads, corks, & anything that needs to be replaced, and they take it completely apart and clean it) Some places charge about $80 whih is extremely low. I would talk to a intrument dealer in your town and find private businesses that run from their houses. Thats how I found my repair person. Well good luck!

if you get the old clarinet, by the time you payed to have it fixed up and pay for a new mouth piece and reeds (the really good ones cost $30 a box) you should just get a slightly used onr from the music store!
