Some people have told me that when you have braces it is harder to play high notes, but I have braces and I don't have any more difficulty with hogh notes than I did before I got them. Just out of curiosity does anyone have trouble playing high notes braces?

I have braces and I've never had problems with any of my notes, high or low. My band director can't tell I had braces at all when I play. So I dunno why people think that you will have difficulty or whatever.

The only trouble I have with braces and music is on the bassoon when I get a sore mouth. When I have a sore and tired mouth I tend to bite down a lot, making my lips bleed. They're getting tougher now.

But I have never had trouble on the clarinet with braces.

Well..I don't have a very high range anyway (the top line of the staff.F),but I had a really hard time playing anything when I first got them.I guess it depends on who it is.

Well I would hope not! Because I may need braces, and I play the clarinet (duh) so I don't want any difficulties.

No need for anyone to worry. I just got my braces a week and a half ago and I still have the full range of the clarinet. If anything having braces will only make you a better player. *Explanation* if you clamp down too hard on the mouthpiece it’ll hurt (not too badly). So this means you HAVE to put more air through the horn thus improving your tone quality.

Do any bass clarinetists here have or have had braces? I have to get them soon- I made first chair in our top band for next, it would suck to show up in september and not be able to play worth crap.

I'm not as concerned about my bass playing as I am mellophone though (but that's a different forum )

I have braces and i don't find it difficult at all. Sometimes i have a sore lips but that's not from my braces.
