I've played the clarinet for almost 3 years ant bass clarinet for lke 3 months.i don't really like the sound of either, although i think i would stick with both of them even if i did decide to play the flute too.

The fingerings are smiilar, but even if they were toatlly different you could learn them.

The difficulty lies in your embouchure - the way your lip muscles have developed. The clarinet requires a tighter embouchure than the flute - eg I find it very difficult to keeop my bottom lip relaxed enough to play flute.

It depends on how long you have been playing clarinet and how well developed your embouchure is.

Well, give it ago - good luck, keep us posted!

I'll go to a lover band. just kidding. Yeah, it depends on which one you like more, ask someone who was in the 8th grade band that plays the flute and see what the music is like. Practice flute and clarinet over the summer and if you feel like you're up to the challenge of taking on flute, great, if not, you can play clarinet and still enjoy it just as much. Either way..good luck and go with what you feel is going to be more of a learning experience/fun time for you.

i have been playing clarient all my life and just recently picked up the flute and learned it for a semester project. the hardest thing for me was getting your mouth just right. i took me about 2 weeks to get the hang of it. after that its a piece of cake!! good luck

i would stick to bass clarinet at school for two reasons !it is not so common.2 LOW WINDS ROCK! but really i would play the bass at school and play the flute on your own time and by the time 9th grade rolls around you will have a better understanding of both of them and u can make a more educated decision
