I am a student auditioning for a district band, and am required to play the E-E major scales for the audition. I am not 100% positive on what scales I will need to play (The E-E doesn't help me) and due to it being the summer I do not have a music teacher who can help. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

When I auditioned for my youth orchestra, the conductor had me play one major scale and one minor scale. So, in your case you probably want to work on major scales for two octives, three if you have the range. Unless minor scales were specified you probably don't need to worry about them. At some auditions they didn't ask me for a specific scale they just told me to pick one that I liked.

Good Luck

I teach band.

In my region there are very specific scales for the try-out that are set by the Region, including the rhythmic pattern they are to be played in. It's very important you get the correct scales for your region/district. Where I live, each region has it's own twist on ranges and rhythms.

Thanks, but what I really need to know is the specific scales I am required to play. The website said I need to play teh E-E major scales, 2 octaves each. I know the rhythmic pattern, adn that I don't need to play minor scales. Last year when I auditioned they listed the sclaes I needed to play, such as C Major, G Major etc. But this year it just says the E-E major scales, and I am not sure what scales that means.

Check to see if the website you got that information from has any sort of email adress to send questions to. If you can't find out- learn all the major scales. There's only 12 of them.

E-E sounds more like a specification of a chromatic scale- in my district they specify for clarinets to start on low E. Perhaps it was mis-read?
