You need to use your diaphragm. A teacher should be able to help better, but whatever you do, don't use your lips! That's only for the lazy.

You perform a slide with your lips. Imagine an opera singer - they don't use their lips to perform vibrato, because they're too busy singing with them! You should be too busy maintaining an in-tune embochoure, so your vibrato needs to develop at the source of the air. Try laying on your back and breath. Put your hand on your stomach. This is how you should be breathing when playing a musical instrument. Many people use their chest to breath, but you can greatly improve your lung capacity by using the diaphragm. Not only does this improve how long a note you can play, but it strengthens your diaphragm and makes a vibrato easier an cleaner.
