Hi, I play Bb clarinet and now bass clarinet for marching band, I've been playing for like 4 years and I wanted to pick up the trumpet. Today I heard 2 of our instructors talking and they said that to take up the trumpet would destroy my clarinet embouchure because they are so different, would it really?

only if you stop practicing the clarinets. my personal rule is that i don't practice my brass for more time in any given day than i play my bass clarinet. you shouldnt mess yourself up if you keep practicing the clarinet diligently. i play bass clarinet in symphonic band and march mellophone, and just picked up teh french horn a couple days ago. my first summer learning mellophone, i discovered it was easier to play bass clarinet first adn then mellophone than the toehr direction, because i was just starting and brass tired out my lips. this past summer, my bass clarinet was broken for about a month, so i couldnt practice it- but i had marching music to learn. my lips were a litttle sketchy when i returned to bass clarinet once it was fixed, but it was a quick recovery with a little while of playing.
i hope some of that is helpful. in short- go for it, just don't sacrifice clarinet practice for trumpet, and you should probably be ok.
