i believe that vibrato on the clarinet has a time and a place, but used right, it sounds great. i dont go anywhere near vibrato with classical, but for jazz it works. for example, Acker Bilk's 'Stranger on the Shore' brilliantly uses the effect. i think that if you think it will sound good, then do it!

I use it on jazz and some more modern classical things. I use it on the Poulenc Sonata, for example, which I played for a judge. He loved it. The recording I have of the piece also uses it, which is where I got the idea.

Ya I had the same problem when i first started experimenting with vibrato

Peronlly i don't use vibrato in a classical setting expesially in well know peices such as the von weber and mozart concerto's but i thinks its ok to use it in more modern peices and in jazz but its really up to the interpertaion of the prefromer

Classical-never. Jazz- sometimes. Never overdue it.
