I have had recent news that my aunt has her old clarinet from high school and she is going to giving it to me. It's a wooden buffet (from which I hear are very good). The clarinet is from somewhere from the 80s or 70s. I am going to go to my local repair shop tomorrow to pick up my bass clarinet from its tune up, and I'm wondering if its worth it to bring in this clarinet, which probably does need a tune up (since it hasn't been touched for a number of years). I'm guessing it will probably need new pads too. I've heard that buffet R13s are very good to play, and this clarinet could be one of those for all I know. I'll probably ask for an estimate first before getting it repaired, but do you think its worth it to spend some money to get it repaired, or just buy a newer clarinet some other time? Are there any models worth repairing more than others?

I need all opinons because I am taking this clarinet in tomorrow.

Note: I am going to bring my mouth piece and barrel, along with my reeds to test all the notes and test for any leeks.

Zoom- I was trying to kill 1 bird with 2 stones, taking everything in to the shop at once. Turns out that didn't really happen and I took it in today. And I actually do have something to do with my clarinet, but currently I have my Yamaha bass and soprano clarinets, and now this old buffet, so theres no rush to get it fixed (although I'd like it before septemeber xD)

Everyones advise is still welcome because I do not have someone repairing it currently, its actually right beside me now.

Well first of all my clarinet teacher says I shouldn't play it, because the wood will get too soft and eventually fall apart. This clarinet needs bore oil, something which I don't have. Also all the keys have heavy tarnish on them and it gets all over my hands, and It doesn't wipe off too well. Also most of the keys are loss and so I haven't played it yet. Oh and the wood at all the joints has shrunk so its painfully hard to even set it up, and even harder to take apart.

Eh, well it does need a complete over haul as you can see, and the cost is 600-1000+ bucks.

I'm consulting my clarinet teacher if it's actually worth it.
