I inherited some instruments and could use help with identifying a beautiful silver plate clarinet, in the original case, that appears to date to the 1920's-1940's. There is no manufacturer name on the instrument, simply a serial number about 2.5 cm from the edge of the bell.

My Dad could play any instrument and wrote/arranged music for the Big Bands before he was old enough to vote, so the instrument could date to that era. I doubt it was his student instrument; his first love was trumpet/cornet and that was his focus.

I've posted images of the clarinet on Photobucket, here: http://s521.photobucket.com/albums/w339/Navy4Christ/Clarinet/

Any help offered would be deeply appreciated.

I saw a similar one in AK Wind Instrument Centre in Manhattan. But I think it was brass. (or Gold??) Maybe they could help you identify it.
