Would it be possible to just put a soprano clarinet mouthpiece and reed on the neck of an alto clarinet and play?
Would it work?
I have never touched or even seen an alto clarinet before therefore i have no idea the size.
Thanks

why, is the mouthpiece a really good one?
i dont really know for sure if you can so
if it isn't,i think its better to jsut buy a decent-priced mouthpiece

Look up the mouthpieces on the Vandoran or Rico websites (for example) and see the different mouthpieces for different instruments.

The answer is...

No.

Alto Clarinets require an ALTO clarinet mouthpiece and an ALTO clarinet reed.

Either way, Alto clarinets are kindof...icky

I like the low tones of the alto but i simply dont have room for a bass (or a budget)

It seems the 5RV and the B40 would fit both the soprano and the alto.

They wouldn't...they just make them for both.

The soprano reed is too small to cover the alto mouthpiece facing. But it can be done with an alto sax reed, though the fit is not exact. In general, you can only put the correct reed or a larger one on any given mouthpiece.
