yep, Ive decided to play Clarinet... My dad's boss gave me a (used) Artley Clarinet (in practically mint condition). It was missing a barrel and a ligature but we picked those up at the music store for about $20 and some reeds as well. Came home and I took a look at the fingering chart in my book and I can already play a 2 octave B-flat Concert Scale only 6 hours later... my only problem is Im having trouble with the high notes but Im sure a bit of practice will sort that out.

Now my list of instruments I play is up to 4. Ive been playing Oboe for 9 months (and even made first chair in All City), Violin (will be trying out for All City Orchestra, been playing 3 years), and Flute (been playing 4 years) so I guess Im doing pretty well...

but yeah, if anyone has any tips, feel free to post them

you play FOUR instruments? Congrats, you didn't get them mixed up. That deserves a roud of applause!

Ok dude, no fair, you play all the instruments I've wanted to master! I've tried flute, hated it. Clarinet, love it. I'm a wannabe-oboe player. And I want to play violin sometime in college.

Really. It's the opposite. Focusing on one or two instruments is a better way to go. Playing 4 instruments is limiting. How can you practice all of those instruments everyday? There is no really way unless you've got a very flexible schedule. In my opinion the fewer instruments you play, the better a musician you can be.

I have no life lol. I have to have a minimum of 2 1/2 hours each, every week. I usually practive each for an hour each day, after homework. then If I have time, I get on the computer to do random things. Also, I play Oboe and Violin at school everyday, and Flute when needed

<Added>

and also, I play what my teacher asks me to learn. I wanted to learn Clarinet though anyway so Im learning it. Im only planning on playing Clarinet/Flute for marching band during marching season, and the rest of the time I play Oboe regularly and Clarinet/Flute as needed, but I still practice all of them.

AquaBlue-(sorry, I didn't see your post) I actually also play Piccolo and some Piano/Guitar/Percusion but not on a regular basis. So technically I play 8 instruments lol. Oboe, Flute, Violin, and Clarinet are the ones I play on a regular basis though so I don't spend a lot of time on Piccolo/Piano/Guitar/Percussion...

that is pretty cool,

i play flute and clarinet (they are differant but similar because in the second octave for flute, the notes are the same as on clarinet but with clarinet you open the register key)
i also play a small bit of keyboard and guitar (but only occasionally) but if you can play the notes with clary it is just a case of getting the music and trying it. good luck with clarinet and remember practice makes perfect (but don't neglect the others)
