Technically yes there is a way you could by looking at the chrod structure and playing another note in that chord structure. The result will be a note that works and is not disonant. However, the music is written with a melody and harmony; often with each line moving with important purtant purpose. So if you were playing one line and then changed the notes you would be playing a different line. The audience may not hear the piece correctly if you start leaving out notes.
Are you sure changing the octave makes it too low?
