(to the original message)i can c where u got that stereotype from.... but as u can c there are a hell of a lot of hardcore bass clarinet players out there that can seriously play (i.e. me) yeah, sometimes they banish sopranos to our section... which really sucks for me cuz every person i`ve played with in band really sucked and quit the following year.
the bass clarinet is a really hard instrument in the beginning, which is why a lot of ppl hate it... but once u get used to it its a lot of fun.

what is your freaken probelem??????????????? i play a regular clarinet but ya im standing up for them. you wanna know why?? cuz your being racist almost! theres nothing wrong with playing a bass clarinet its just another instrament, thats a larger one of the clarinet, no its not easier than the clarinet its just as hard probably. thats like saying that people who play the tuba are just big people who suck and the band director just gave them the tuba, no it doesnt work like that, everybody chooses their own instrament, and its their opion. ya sure you may have your own opion on the bass clarinet but that doesnt mean you come here and start talking trash about it! thats like someone who plays the flute who hates the clarient coming here saying stuff like that! havent you ever heard, if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all? well you should follow it, cuz coming here talking trash is so rude!

greetings all of you. i am the original poster, and it`s been quite interesting to see so many responses...
-first of all, nicole person, "if you don`t have something nice to say, don`t say it", of course i`ve heard of that, but then so what? do you expect people in real life to only compliment each other and steer away from the bad things? if thats what you think, then you`re being way too idealistic,
-secondly, this is a forum, a F-O-R-U-M, where you`re supposed to state how you feel, your opinions (notice opinoins don`t nessc.have to be bad or good, that`s why they`re known to be subjective)
-thirdly, no, flute and clarinet are two different instruments, in case you haven`t noticed, one`s a reed instrument and one`s not, and this relationship between flute and clarinet is NOT the same between clarinet and bass clarinet, and your tuba thing is a even worse analogy,i don`t know how you can even compare the two.....
-also, um, in realilty, not everybody picks their own instrument in case you haven`t noticed
-"havent you ever heard, if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all? well you should follow it, cuz coming here talking trash is so rude!" that`s your quote, and i can tell you`re being a hypocrite, you aren`t being very nice either, are you?
-i don`t see why that`s called "almost being racist",,, please clarify
-HOWEVER, i do apologize in a way, there are of course outstanding bass clarinet players out there, and in actual fact the bass clarinet harder, that being said, there are also in fact lots of not as good bass clarinet players out there

OK, so you came here and stated an opinion, but it was the way you said it. You were very rude in the way that you set out your original post, in my opinion anyway. I really think that this forum should be moderated because it`s turning into one huge bitching session. *Rolls eyes*

ok look first, your saying im being rude? and mean? ya i may be ALITTLE but thats only because your being rude, and picking on a instrament just because you dont like it. i dont know what you play but you wouldnt like it if someone came in here talking trash bout wutever you play. so ya i think that if you dont have anything nice dont say anything at all then i think you should be following it just as much as me im standing up and if im coming off rude, then o well because im just proving a point.
second- i NEVER said that a flute and clarinet are the same instrament because im not stupid they are very different! so dont go off explaining why their different because i know why that is. and "my tuba theary" where did that come from? i said that because alot of people who can play an instament say that if you cant play something then a tuba is the easiest thing, which it isnt. so i dont know what your talking about.
third- so i never said that the comparison between the clarient adn the flute are the same between the clarinet and the bass clarient
fourth-ya sure this is a forum and there is no way that anyone can stop you from posting your opionin and ya every one has different ones. but that doesnt give you any right to come in here and speak your mind. and dont say that ooo i have the right to speak my mind its in the constitution. yes you do BUT it also says that your rights stop where others began. and you`ve crossed that line
fifth- yes i do believe in a way you are being racist because your just picking on a instrament, you just coming in here and saying all that stuff about it. your not saying stuff bout instraments in general but just one kind so ya you are in my opionin.

Not having read many of the posts(1 or 2), let me step in and define a few things before turd hits the fan. Racism is clearly out of the picture, Nicole, and should not be brought up again. It is very clear that you have no clue what the term means. There is nothing on this that would even resemble racism. So in no way say that it even "resembles", because it does not.
Instead of everyone getting so ticked at the original poster, why don`t you try ingnoring ignorance like that? Many people come to this forum and post without having the slightest clue about what they are posting or why they are posting. It`s like getting angry at a baby for spilling milk. Who cares! Move on and learn to play the clarinet instead of this juvenile BS.

i have my opionins just like you guys have yours. and yes I BELIEVE, that doesnt mean you have to, but i do believe that in a small way yah she is being racist. and yes i do know the defenition it is
the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races
or discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race
and i said in a way its like that because im saying that ur just picking on one instrament, not in the way of skin color and heritage or something but in what you play. racism is not just with where your from or what you look like, it can be used in different ways too

Well...maybe it is just me. But in my book and most books, racism is the hatred or mistreatment of races of people against another. To say that some idiotic bickering over which is better does NOT constitute racism. Not even the slightest. Grow up a little. I live around it constantly(the joys of living in a major metropolitan area) it kills me to see someone use it as you are. Totally out of context.

(hey dude its andrew)

yea i totally agree with you Dmitri. I have been playing the Bass clarinet for only a few months around.. 5 or 6 i think and am already way better than the 2 8th grade basses in the wind ensomble (however it`s spelled) and by the way i`m in 7th grade but what ever your talking about clarinet_obsesser with the "not everybody picks their own instrument in case you havn`t noticed" thats total BS because when you join band then you have a list and pick one or more (for me a first and second choice) for an instrument to play and you will get one of those unless there is an insane ammount of poeple then they give you a third choice until you get one "YOU" pick. and just like everyone else i am going to say that your first statement that is wrong also because i chose to switch to bass clarinet the second i heard one and not because i was the worst clarinet in our band, it just so happens that i was first chair in symphonic band and 1 month after i had already started playing only my bass i had to take a test with my Bb soprano but still got the best grade possible on it.
I would like to know if the Contra Bass Clarinet is harder to play and sounds better? because if so then would like to try it but am not sure where to get one from since my school doesn`t own one... yet...

consider yourself lucky, if they let you pick your instruments, sometimes you don`t even get your first, second or even third choice ;
nicole person; that rasism defintion of yours sure sounds like you copied it down or paraphrased from a dictionary, but then you stil manage to apply it in the wrong contexts, notice the root word is RACE, not what instrument you play
and no, i am not an American, you don`t have to talk about the constitution with me
-Believe me, i know what true racism is, living in a foregin country for four years can teach you alot
