Long time no talk to! its getting a little crazy out there again. Im responding to the person that was talking about the contra bass. It is a great instrument and in my opinion i really dont think its that hard but i`ve been playing the BC for about 6 years now so its easy to make the switch.since you dont have a CB than you should ask your band director if they even want one in the band.most of the time thats why they dont have one.

look yes i did get that definition from a dictionary because i wanted to show you what the real definition is and how I believe what i said. dont you even start saying stuff like i dont know anything about that subject because i do. if you havent noticed we all live in the same world and racism is happening everywhere its better than what it used to be but its still going on. you would have to be blind to not know what racism is. and yes i do know what it is i see it all the time and its everywhere. so dont say i have no idea what it is. and this is MY opionin just like you have yours. and i said it once ill say it again, racism doesnt ALWAYS have to be about race or skin color, it can be used in different terms!!!!!!!!!! and thats what im doing. im saying that in MY opionin they were being almost racist in a way. so yes i will stand behind that because i still believe that.

if you wanna instant message me im me at stonefacepena

Racism:
1. prejudice or animosity against people who belong to other races
2. the belief that people of different races have different qualities and abilities, and that some races are inherently superior or inferior.

Prejudice: Opinion formed beforehand- a preformed opinion, usually an unfavourable one, based on insufficient knowledge, irrational feelings, or inaccurate stereotypes.

SOURCE: Encarta Concise English Dictionary, Macmillan, 2001.

I believe prejudice is the word we are looking for here.

Back to the original topic- I don`t particularly like the bass clarinet, but it is NOT a bad instrument.
Also, from what I`ve heard it is more difficult than the soprano clarinet, so it makes no sense to banish bad players to it.

Racism doesn`t have to be about race? Apparently online posts do not have to do with a knowledge of english.

Bass Clarinets Rule :)    17:34 on Friday, June 4, 2004

I an intermediate bass clarinet player. I have posted here before, earlier, although i would like to add some more stuff. Number one, I am extremely agitated with some of the idiots in this forum. Not that they hate the BC, but that they take to putting it down over and over again. Just say "In my opinion, bass clarinet is not the greatest instrument." Secondly, i forgot to tell you i am a failure at the alto, and lost total control for some reason (I`m going to stick to my BC from now on). Finally, I live in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, at Korah High School, and we have a band of about 60 students. In this band, we have 2 BC (me and someone else), and about 8 clarinets. I find this a weird proportion, and you can hardly ever hear them over us. We arent heard in some songs anyway because of the tenor saxes. Anyway, I would like to say that one day I would like to switch to the ContraBass Clarinet, although at the moment my school doesnt own one and i cant afford the 15 000 Canadian Dollars for one. Maybe i could buy a used one.

i did try the bass clarinet before, and it was because i was one of the worst clarinet players in band, but then I fought really hard to get the bass clarinet out of my hands, so the band director ended up giving the bass clarinet to the next crappiest player
I KNOW what the instrument is like, and I KNOW it`s very hard, prob. harder than the soprano one
therefore i apologize for what i said before about bass clarinet being sucky and all that, BUT HOWEVER, i am not lying, there are bands that do that, and of coruse there are many other bass clarinet players out there where simply they made a choice to play it, and that they are excetptional players

jazz bass and soprano    03:56 on Thursday, June 10, 2004

hey everyone,

I`m also interested in the original posters view on jazz clarinet. What is it about jazz clarinet that sounds awful?

I play Jazz clarinet ahd until this year when I joined a sextet I`ve been pretending to be either a trumpet or a tenor sax. even in the sextet it`s difficult to be heard over the bass, guitar, drums and organ my tenor friend`s always telling me to play louder. Does anyone think that the clarinet soprano or otherwise is harder to play than sax?

I think it`s far easier to get a loud sound out of a sax and it`s also far more stable and easier to play lines on with the octave difference for the same fingering instead of the clarinet 12th (try playing fast licks up and down B flat, G sharp and F or that whole area)

I started playing the Bassclarinet as something different `cause I never really liked the sound of a soprano in jazz it`s a bit unconventional and really hard to find good music (listening) for . theres` Eric Dolphy and Bennie Maupin but few others I could find. Has anyone else played any jazz on Bass or soprano? it`s

bass clarinet is mad    05:32 on Saturday, June 12, 2004

firstly bass clarinets are mad i started out on 1 back in 5th grade. now i`m in grade 11 and play 2nd chair soprano clarinet in our top school band as well as 4th chair in the Queensland Conservatorium of Music`s top wind ensemble so you cant so that all the bass players out there are crap. although in my school band the bass players are easily the worst out of the whole section

bass is way harder to play than soprano, anyone who has tried to play a difficult bass part will tell you that so don`t criticise something you yourself have never tried

anyone out there ever played New York by Nigel Hess on bass? that has to be the most fun ive ever had playing any instrument (cept shostakovich folk dances)

Nobbsie, is that the Young Conservatorium or the actual Conservatorium?
I`m studying composition at the QLD Conservatorium with Stephen Leek, and I did the Prep course on clarinet a couple of years ago, studying with Floyd Williams. He is BRILLIANT- no other teacher I`ve had even comes close to comparing with him. I`m thinking of trying to do a double major (clarinet/composition) next year, but the only thing is that I`m so much in awe of Floyd that I play badly whenever he comes within 5000km of me.
Do you get taught by one of the teachers at the Conservatorium. If so, who?

Hey, do you know anything about music? Are you really a musician? I don`t think so. If you really love music you don`t talk that way. Or else you need attention from a psychologist. All instruments in the clarinet family are important in the same level in an ensamble. And by the way, Iam 33 yeas old, been playing the clarinet for the last 24 years (practicing long hours each day) and still feel humble regarding music. Every good musitian feels like that!
