Bass clarinet is in fact harder than soprano Bb clarinet. Because it is such a low instrument, higher notes are harder to get out. I myself have never played it but I know that the "losers of the section" are not banished to it. Some very good Bb players choose to switch because they prefer the soothing mellow sound.

Hey you bass bashers.... I was second chair B flat soprano in my school and the girl ahead of me is in the all state band... I chose to switch to bass. Keyword is chose. Im in state band too, on the instrument I love. I love the sound of the bass. If bass clarinet isn`t for you dont bash it. I don`t like the sound of other instruments, but I also have whats called music appreciation. You may not like what you hear, but we basses deserve everyones respect.

yes you can march with a bass clarinet, though I have never done so because my band director won`t let me. I plan on going to college next year to play the BC as a music major. YEAH!!! And there are 3 BC players in my band.

im in da 10th grade now and ive been played the bass for 4 years. now the instrument would suck to somebody who cant play. thats just common sense, but heck i`ve gotten first chair in all-districts before and, i know i make the bass sound good and im sure theres plenty of other ppl. out there who can make it sound good. besides it takes a certain kind of a person to step up to da bass. peace guys

well i am first chair, and the people who play bass clarinet in my band were banised (one used to be a trumpet player, the other was a lower grade clarinet player)

that`s in asia though, i am sure in the states it`s different

Im actually an oboe player totally different to clarinets but,

I know a really good song that the bass clarinet plays, it is the song from the nutcracker suite THE DANCE OF THE SUGER PLUM FAIRY, its has a really cool part in it IT SOUNDS GREAT!!!!!

and i think bass clarinets are amazing they look great and you shouldnt bag people if they play bass clarinet.

MY friend is one aswell and she can play it really well it can sound really good when you want it to.

For your information the bass clarinet is a widely popular instrument which appeals to its audience when played well.

Also the fact the bass clarinet is very rarely played well just proves that it is in fact a harder instrument to play and master.

The bass clarinet is also bigger than a clarinet so it`d win in a fight! So bring it on! ;o)
