Just wondering what you guys have seen out there. Ive seen crazy clarinets coming in neon green, orange, yellow, and blue. Wouldnt that be awesome to have for marching band. Lol. Would it be allowed? Just a crazy thought. But what `have` you guys seen out there, anything like this? Or is it just me? Clear mouthpieces. Its crazy!
...if you dare to reply

Anything regarding marching band in my book is wretched, and to think of `colorful` clarinets just blows my mind. I know that Vito has their Dazzler, but gimme a break. I don`t think the original maker of the clarinet had in mind clarinets to be standing in the back of a football field playing ever variation of pitch from A430-460!

I know a kid that has a clear mouthpiece but he does not clean it often enough if you get one clean it every day. As for colored clarinets my band director does not allow them on or off the field. I do think that is cool but I would wait until I get a pro job.

Just a thought; chill. I would think it would have been awesome, if someone out there dares. But tacky-yes-so it doesnt cross my mind in performance.

Since marching band is more visual than musical, why not use clarinets that represent the school colors. The percussion lines typically do that anyway. Plastic is plastic, regardless of what color it is.

More visual than musical?
I was unaware of any musical aspect at all.

DCI is pretty musical in some regards. Now if you want to call DCI musical that is another story. For that matter, if you even want to classify that as a "marching band". Years ago I heard the U of Michigan marching band. For a marching band, they are still pretty musical. Now for HS groups, I completely agree. However, some would agree for several BOA bands such as Marion Catholic, Lassiter, and others.

Well with my band director everything is uniform and every thing has to be the same. He is very strict. I know from when we went to march in a parade down mainstreet in disney my dad was late getting back on the bus after a meal and my band director embaressed him in front of the whole bus because he kept us waiting. So basically there is no budging him for colored clarinets.

Your right on that one. You stand around running to try to make it to your next spot, and sometimes you dont worry about the music; being a talented marcher-I can do both-but marching at 120 at 8 to 5...lol, it wears you out so much that you dont have breath to play. Remarking from my expirences...with other band members, yes. DCI is awesome. Go Cavaliers!
...your favorite DCI band?

Chances are the clear mouthpiece you have seen is either a Pyne poly-crystal or a Pomarico crystal mouthpiece. I have found that the Pyne is more of a novelty. It would make a great conversation piece. As for the Pomarico, I have never found a good one. I tried and gave up. Unless you just want to have a mouthpiece to show off to your friends, it would be wiser to purchase a decent mouthpiece. Some of the Vandorens are ok, but you have to look hard to find a good one.
