I`m thinking of getting a Vandoren mouthpiece for my Selmer student model(CL200) clarinet. I`m using a 31/2 Vandoren reed and a Rovner ligature. Any imput would be great!

A lot of people like Vandoren mouthpieces. I used to play one myself when I was in HS. There are three that come to mind that I would try. The 5RV and the 5RV Lyre are ok. A lot of people are raving about the new M30, but I have not personally tried them. You have to be careful though with Vandoren mouthpieces. They are very inconsistant. You just have to make sure that you know how to pick a mouthpiece and you will be fine. Look for one that is in tune, and has enough resistance to enable you to tongue properly. Otherwise, it will be like walking on ice.

No Vandoren mouthpiece is "the best" you need to pick one that will work right for your instrument and your reeds.

If you go to vandoren.com there is a chart on the site that tells you which mouthpiece is the best for different reed strengths. Since you play on 3 1/2`s (I`m guessing these are vandoren reeds. Other reeds will differ in strength compared to the chart on the site) the B45, B46, M30, SRV.. and so on would be good for you to try (go to the site to see others that would work).

Before you buy your mouthpiece you should definitely try out many, especially while using a tuner.
