but I`ve never set up a real good routine for practicing. I read out of the Klose method book and a few peices in Band class were using in our upcoming concert. i was wondering if you have any suggestions for a good practice routine. Thanks.

Using the Klose method is a great place to start (I used to use it but have sadly misplaced it).
Here is what I usually do:
*play at least 2 different scales and their relative minors (If you have the same Klose book I had then you can find major and minor scales throughout the book).
*Then move on to a chromatic scale from lowest note to highest note (whatever that may be for you).
*After you have finished with scales you could pick a couple of pieces in the Klose book to warm up.
*Then if you get a good study/etude book (I suggest rose) then you could pick a study/etude that you can work on.
*After working on the study (I would work on it for 15 mins - half hour) you should move on to whatever else you need to work on, like a piece from your band, or a solo.
*When I’m done I usually end with a nice chromatic scale.
Good Luck

I have been playing clarinet for eight years now and I star4ted playing in a professional polka band about a year and a half ago. The way that I usually practice is I do two scales, one major and one minor, From there i do a chromatic scale. after I have finished with the scales i tune and then pull out my lesson book(currently a book filled with solos for district band next year). I do some of the solos that I know and then start on the ones assigned by my private teacher. When I practiced that for about half an hour to an hour I move on to my songs for band and orchestrs. i usually finish off my practice with a solo and a chromatic scale then clean my clarinet adn put it away. Hope that helps and you find a good practice scheduale.

Scales are good `cause you can check that everything works and the clarinet gets a chance to warmup so you can tune. After you have tuned you could try to listen to the sound and practice bettering it until you`re satysfied then I usually move on to etudes for half an hour and then rotate my reed (I never play a reed for more than 45 minutes if I don`t play a concert, thet seem to last a little bit longer if I don`t play them for to long) then I play my homework and so on and finishis it all up by just having fun (playing a piece of jazz or blues in the opposite of the classical music I get for homework).
