We have at least 60-90 students in our band. We have one marching band which is the same band to perform for Concert. We also have a jazz band. Recently, we went to Dallas and took one trophy from a really good band in Colorado.

Well, here is something for you. In my band there is about 26 people and that goes for marching and concertband. If you join band you are automatically in: Pep, marching, concert, and you have to go to regional instrumentals!!!

But in the end all the hard work really pays off

Same here, too short...when we first started out as a band like around 4 years ago, there were only 11 people in the Carroll band! But, like as you say, yeah, we`re automatically put in those bands. Except in Jazz. I don`t play Jazz Clarinet, but I really really want to!

This just makes our band sound pretty bad. We have about 60 people at the most and we only have a marching band, jazz band, and a percussion enssemble. As far as a syphonic band goes i`ve never heard of it. we have honor bands and all-state but oher than that, thats all we have around here

Our school is very small. y`all talk about bands w/ more than 100 kids (more than in our whole high school)and we have about 35.

Advanced Band: this has 10 High School students (2 are foreign exchange) in it and about 15 Middle School kids who can count and read music. So at festival this year we were competeing against other bands that were all High School and we still got a Superior rating.

Beginning Band: left-over Middle School kids

1) Senior Wind Band (grade 5+). The school`s show-piece band In my time, we made the finals of the National Festival of Music for Youth. Very
2) Junior Wind Band.
3) Big Band (i.e jazz band). No clarinets, of course
4) Junior Jazz (junior big band)
5) Percussion ensemble. Surpisingly, they were generally rather classy.
6) Wind quintet. (Which for years has bass clarinet for bassoon, and another clarinet for oboe. Year before I left, it became "normal" version)
7) String quarter. `nuff said
8) Lower school singers (Years 7 to 9 i.e. ages 11-14). They were DIRE. Despite being a keen singer, I had nothing to with them.
9) Upper school singers. (Years 10-13 i.e ages 14-18). Consisted of graduands form lowers school singers. Marginally better, but some god-awful soloists. I as never a member

School concerts would include the above, plus some soloists. The solosist were generall talented, but one needs to choose the right sort of piece for school concerts. A friend of mine (a horn player), once did a theme & variations. He played very well, but nine variations was a bit excessive...

Also, within our county ran a load of music groups. There were three areas, and within our area ther was:
Advanced: (Grade 5+): Orchestra, Concert Band (i.e a wind band)
Intermnediate (grades 2-5): two wind bands, two string ensembles
Junior: (Upto grade 2): Two wind bands, four string ensembles
We also has the "junior singers", which was age based rather than grade based. (For years 5-7 i.e. ages 8-11)

I have always counted myself extremely lucky to be born in a county where music education is made so available.

Oh, numbers.... our school had 1200 pupils. The two wind bands, the big band, jazz band and upper shcool singers all had 20-30 members; the lower school singers 50-odd, and the perscussion ensemble around half a dozen.
County-wise... I don`t know how many school-age people there were within the area. I would guess 15,000 to 20,000. The conecrt band and wind band I played in both had 60-70 members; the orchestra was a bit bigger than a standard orcehstra, due to having two per part in the wind.

im in SA.

there is about 2200 kids in our school and we only have one band - the concert band.

our band learns you to play but there is also a lot of players of grades 5+.

there used to be a symphonic band which sucked but it kinda fell apart after they started a concert band.

we won the nationals this year and we will be participating in a national competition next year.

a lot of schools here dont have bands but there is some youth orchestras that you can join.

concert band doesnt nescessarily suck.

You`re making me think all the way back to high school, hahaha.

There were two bands..

Freshman Band &
Symphonic Band

All freshman no matter what were in freshman band. Didn`t matter if you were the best player in the world

Symphonic band was grades 10-12. Symphonic band marches for the first quarter, then for the rest of the year, it was just your typical band.

Our bands were very good and I didn`t realize how good until I went to University and was sitting listening to the Symphonic Band here play a piece that our Freshman band had played (granted the symphonic band was playing the piece on a whim and didn`t have to think as much about it as our freshman band did, but still).

Oh yes, also in high school..there were approximately 400 kids in school and over half (200+) were in the band program. About 140 people marched for marching band, but this is including students that had a "marching band study hall" which essentially was a quarter of the year class and was only offered to non-playing students like flags, poms, etc.

University is different..too many bands, ensembles, etc, heheh.
