I just got a clarinet about a week ago. Today I finally got to the music store to get reeds and a new ligature piece. I was not able to bring my clarinet, because I did it between client visits while at my internship.
Anyway I didn`t know what kind to get so the sales person gave me one reed for free and told me to try it out. So I have A reed.
How many times may I use it?
May I reuse the little plastic case?
Feedback will be greatly appriciated.
Thank you in advance.

First, you will definitely need to buy a box of reeds. (B-flat clarinet reeds if that is the instrument you have). If you are new to clarinet or haven`t played for a long time, I would suggest 1 1/2 or 2 as the reed strength.
The life of the reed can vary from each brand and how well you take care of it. It is possible for a reed to be "played out" and not be damaged. Those small plastic cases that come with reed do not really work well. You will need a case that hold several reeds. After practice, make sure the reeds are dried off before putting it into case to prevent mold.
Oops, I almost forgot something important, make sure the reed is moist when your are playing. You can put the reed in a small container or cup filled with water while assembling the clarinet. If you are taking a break, you can put a cap over the mouthpiece.
I hope this helps...

You can use a reed until its cracks or until you notice tht its not performing like it used to. And yes can also reuse the plastic case.

Regular Ricos and Rico Royals are pretty cheap reeds. I would recommend trying a few different brands and see which one suits you. Vandoren is very popular. I personally use Mitchell Lurie for their consistency.

Ricos are ok for the beginner musician. I personally perfer Vandoren because they last longer and produce a better sound.

Your best bet is too look at reed ebfore you use it, and if its not good enough, chuck. Look for splits and chips especially.
