Bass Clarinet Fingering Chart?    22:13 on Friday, December 10, 2004

I`m a first year audio engineering major at TX State, and my primary instrument is French Horn. However, I`ve decided to learn bass clarinet and possibly switch to that... but I can`t find any good fingering charts for bass clarinet online. If anyone could get me a link to an easy to read chart and some beginner exercises that would be awesome! (I`m poor, and I don`t want to buy a book yet haha)

Thanks,

Kerri

Hi, I switched from regular clarinet to bass clarinet and I just use a regular Bflat clarinet fingering chart. It works good. bass clarinet and regular clarinet have pretty much the same fingerings! Hope this helps!!

it`s universal; any clarinet (well maybe except german clarinets) chart will work fine on any clarinet in any key

a regular Bb clarinet chart will work but there are different fingering when you get in the upper register and you have to use the half hole and the bass clarinet also plays some notes lower then the E on the soprano Bb clarinet.

I have tried all normal clarinets, soprano is what I like best. All the other ones are either lower or higher, some of them need to transpose the clarinet part. The part written for those instrument is purely half notes, and whole notes. 20 bars of rest followed by 30 bars...interesting piece...

i have played the bass for a long time, and know it well. the fingerings are similar to the regular clarinet. the only difference is that the bass has a range to high G and the Bb soprano goes to high C#. you just have to half hole when you are playing the highest octave. i recomend playing the bass, it is by far my favorite clarinet (i play soprano, Bb, Alto, and contra-bass).

I`ve gotten to 4th octave C on bass. Is that possible-I`ve done it, but what is the FULL range of a bass? I`m not bragging... I`m not that whoopy at bass, still learning. I just know those notes from Bb clarinet.

What are these half tone/hole things you guys are talking about?

I`m new to playing bass and I`m taking a bass clarinet solo to contest, Romanza and Toque(something like that) by Polkaoff(something like that) my teacher is ordering it. Is that song any good?

Also, how would you play low D? I`ve had it written in one of my bass clarinet parts in orchestra. I had to go an octave up because I didn`t know it.

I love BC, its a fun instrument. Funny thing is, I just found this little forum thingy after googling online "bass clarinet fingerings". The fingering I was looking for? Low D. My band director has no clue how, or rather wont tell me, probably both. Anywho, Bass Clarinet is awesome, it has such a wide range, the only bad part as far as I`m concerned is the size. It`s too bug! Lol.
