Don`t listen to those fools but you should go to the website called the woodwing fingering guide the bass clarinet and the Bflat clarinet have the same fingerings but you should know all the way up from the Low Eflat of the end of the bass clarinet all the way up to High c that is the basic for almost all of the music for the bass clarinet good luck.

I think there`s suppose to be an attachment under the thumb key for the left hand that allows you to play low D.. I`m just having trouble reaching anything higher than a high C. Gaaaah.

i`m 14 and i have been playing the bass for a little over a year now. i am in the eigth grade now. i started playing clarinet when i started sixth but switched to bass in january of seventh grade and have been playing it since. i`m the only person that plays bass IN MY ENTIRE SCHOOL, but there are 3 or 4 at my highschool (Bellbrook Marching Eagles from Bellbrook Ohio, if any of you go to the BOA competition in Indy our highschool does pretty good)

ok i having just read these posts am a little disapointed. many of you have been saying how you`ve been playing for 2 years or something like that and spend half the time trying to figure out how to play a low D, well i`ll tell you how. you can`t. not unless you have a special bass clarinet (C) meaning it goes down to low C. and for all of you that are saying things about how your teachers completely ignore you and your bass line sucks or something along those lines, if your renting your bass from the school you wont have a bass going to low c because they cost about 5000 dollars more than a good regular bass. a regular bass is about 3 feet tall, while a bass extending to low c is another foot and a quarter taller. everything down to the 5 pinkey keys directly below the right pinkey is the same size for an Eb and C bass, the extra 1 1/4` is in that last stretch of about 1` beneath the 5 pinkey keys. if you didnt really understand any of that.... i dont blame you as for going up to the highest note, i`m not quite sure on that. the highest i have gone that i can remember is doing a 3octive Eb scale from the lowest F. and for anyone thinking about switching to bassoon.... don`t... you play nothing good and compaired to the bc music you wont play anything cool, all the solies and solos are marked in the bc sheet music and not the bassoon so your conducter will completely ignore you COUGH i`m lying COUGH COUGH lol i just cant stand to have anyone switch away from bass clarinet.

Yeah, I switched from clarinet to Bass Clarinet, I find it awesome. Since I played clarinet before the fingering chart is the same.
