Hello,

I`m a wwds player "specialist" of the bass and contrabass clarinets - I play too Eb and C clarinets, basset horn, C saxophones (C-soprano and C-tenor), flute, piccolo and bassoon.

As a teacher, if you have questions...

Good work with this amazing and beautifull horns !

Depending on whether you play the Eb or the Bb Contrabass Clarinet, you will find that you almost always have to borrow a part.

I play the Bb Contrabass Clarinet. Though I have been lucky at times to find a part written for my instrument, I normally have to read Bass Clarinet. But to my joy, if there is a part to Bass Saxophone, I can use that as well.

If anyone had finale notepad, you could simply take the tuba part of the music, write it into the notepad, and transcribe it to your key. That goes for any instrument. Find an instrument that you seem to get a lot of similar parts with, and when you don`t have a part, simply transcribe their part :D

a lot of the time when i play my contra alto clarinet I just play the Bari sax part or the alto clarinet part. Fortunately, there are a lot of songs that have a part for the contra alto clarinet.

What do you prefer? The curved or straight contrabass clarinet?? I`ve never had the opportunity of playing on one, but they are so beautifull! I think the straight version looks nicer but it`s easier to play on the curved one... what do you think??

I played the bari sax and contra-alto clarinet in HS. Now in college I play the contrabass clarinet and man do i love it!!! We went on tour to Hawaii in January and our one host said it may be the only contrabass on the island! Way fun!

Hi !
The straight contrabass is nice, yes, but only to low Eb (and some to low D I think). But not so easiy to play, I prefer the curved one to low... C.

I own a straight BBb COntrabass calr. to low C, I have been writing some stage band charts, and find that it makes a great `bottom` to the woodwind (reed/sax) section. We tend to use flute/picc, Bb clar., Eb Alto clar., Bb bass clar, and BBb contra bass clar for the softer , more mellow, pieces...vocals etc. It sounds great as part of that section!

Just bought a soprillo sax (Bb, octave ABOVE the soprano sax), and am working on a piece using the extreme saxes, soprano, sopranino and soprillo saxes.

Check out my web site...
