To my best knownledge, the bari sax is slower then the bass clarinet. The tenor sax, however, is in the same (or similar) range as the bass clarinet.

The bass clarinet sounds more like a clarinet just an octave lower while the tenor sax was refered to as the "chain saw" instrument by my high school teacher. It doesn`t sound like a chain saw but the sound is harsher then the bass clarinet.

NO the bass clarinet does not play the same range as the bari sax because the bari sax is lower than the bass clarinet then the whole thing changes untill you get to the contra bass clarinet and the bass sax so that is your answer

The Bass Clarinet is More comparable to the Tenor Sax and the Contra-Alto/Contra-Bass Clarinet is in the same range as the Bari Sax

Well... sorta.

The normal B-flat soprano clarinet plays in a technically higher range than an alto sax, but because of the way the register key works on a clarinet (jumping up a 12th instead of an 8th), the range of the clarinet is greater, so the normal soprano clarinet goes down to a concert D while the Alto sax goes down to a concert D-flat.

Since a bass clarinet is an octave lower than a B-flat soprano clarinet, and since a bari sax is an octave lower than an alto sax, the bass clarinet is around the same range as the bari sax on the low end. But, a bari sax can go down to a concert E-flat (A on the sax). And, many bass clarinets can be found that will go down to a concert B-flat lower than the Bari`s lowest note. Plus, because it`s a clarinet, it has a very impressive higher range.

So, a bass clarinet can play in the range of a bari sax, but it is not in the same key. It is keyed the same as a tenor sax. In order to play bari sax music on bass clarinet, it requires some transposing. Move all the notes up 4 steps, and that should do the trick.

edit: bari goes down to concert C, not E-flat.

It is in the same range, but not the same key. Doubling a tenor part on bass clarinet is easier because they`re in the same key, but it`s possible to do a bari part on bass clarinet. Just harder.

i htink they have the same range except usually barisaxes go down to concert c but bassclarinet goes down to concert Db (clarinet`s Eb).Also i think the bari saxes low Bb (which is equivilent to the bass clarinet`s low Eb), is like a fourth lower or something like that.

Bass Clarinets usually go down to a concert Db/C#. (their low Eb)
Bari Saxes usually go down to a concert C (Their low A)
Tenor Saxes go down to a concert Ab (a fifth higher than the Bass Clarinet)

there is really only a half a step difference, but the bari sax is lower, and in a different key. There is just over a half an octave difference between the Tenor Sax and Bass Clarinet.
