I want to look into getting a new mouthpiece before our All State tryouts. I`m using the stock one that came with my clarinet and I want something better. I`d like something that gives a nice tone, easy to blow in all registers, good on all dynamics. Mostly though, I want something that gives a good tone but is also easy to blow.

Thanks!

I really enjoy the Vandoren B 45 and B 46 mouthpieces. B 45 has a smaller opening than the B 46 and is intended for orchestral or solo playing. Its quite nice. A B 46 is more for the jazz player or an advanced bass player, but is really awesome. I particularly like the B 46. Also Selmer makes good mouth pieces. I bought myself a C * and its also really good. Another good selmer mouthpiece is the D model. It has a medium opening. I also have a Bay Bass Clarinet mouthpiece, that is quite expensive, but is wonderful. I would recommend a Vandoren B 45 if you are just starting out on a professional mouthpiece. If you want to buy them go to www.music123.com.

at the all-state band level there will be bot a single clarinet player there that will have a b45 or b46
in my opinion you should take it another level up and get an m13 which sounds nice and is rich in overtones and responds well or an m15 which produces a very dark fat sound and is extremely easy to control in all registers

Now the one you should use is the M13 or the M13lyre Vandoren and use should use the Vandoren V12 reed that is what the reed is for so that my suggestion I would always get rid of the stock mouthpiece so that is my opinion.

Aren`t M13s Clarinet mouthpieces and not Bass Clarinet Mouthpieces?

Until today i`ve played the following mothpieces:

- Vandoren B40
=> Nice sound, warm, dark, with a lot of volume but the response isn`t that good
- ESM RCR 3
=> warm sound, better response than the B40, but not that much volume
- Walter Grabner CX_BS
=> aggressive sound (like a chainsaw ), but very good response

At the moment i play a Lomax Classic Elite.
It provides a very warm, clarine sound, excellent response and overall a very good control. I wish it could provide a bit more volume, but maybe I have to try different reeds. (vandoren 3.5 or 4 instead of 3)

i use the larry combs signature mouthpiece. it works equally well for almost all styles of playing. it can swing like crazy and still play those dark minor classicals with killer tone.
